Manchester A's 2010 Player Profiles
Management Team
Chris Jackson : Manager
TBA : Assistant Manger
Players
Chris Jackson
Position CF
Throws R
Bats R
Chris has played for the A's since 1999 & has been the manager since 2003. He is a steady centre fielder, with a solid bat. Chris is a regular run contributor and at 39 can still steal plenty of bases (155 all time). Skip pitched in relief during 2009, using every conceivable arm angle and speed (apart from fast) to get runners out. Chris won the A's MVP in 2002.
Dave Gould
Position OF
Throws R
Bats R
Dave returned from retirement this year after a 3½ year layoff to help the cause. Dave is an MBC living legend, he holds MBC career records in stolen bases, runs scored and hit by pitch (an impressive 28). Dave is looking to sign off at 162 games, which would be fitting for this colossus of MBC. Dave is one of the longest serving members of the club joining in 1998.
Ian Marginson
Position 2B
Throws R
Bats R
Margy has been with us since
2000. Initially he bounced around
varying positions as the As utility guy until 2004 when he secured a regular
spot at 2B. Margy is a 2 time batting champion, whos A's career batting average is .384. Bizarrely Margy was also our steals champion in 2008 with 35, which tells you stealing bases is not all about speed, which is just as well!
Hervι Boutin
Position 3B
Throws R
Bats R
Hervι has been with MBC on and off since 1999. He is an excellent 3rd baseman, with some pop in his bat. Hervι is a career .346 hitter, who has played most of his games with the Express/Eagles. Hervι brings over 20 years baseball experience with him on to the diamond, he is an invaluable asset to coaches and young players alike.
Luis Arrevillagas
Position 1B
Throws R
Bats R
The 'big man' has been with the club since 2003. He holds the record for most home runs hit by an MBC player in a career, 20 in just a little over a 100 games and has a career batting average of .458, he is also second in RBI's all time with 139. Oh and this guy can play some defence too, just ask the many shortstops he's made look good and the hitters he's robbed a base hit off over the years.
Damian Goodall
Position SS
Throws R
Bats R
Damian was new to us in 2009 and it didn't take him long to make the shortstop position his own. He was our 1st change pitcher in 09', picking up 5 wins. Damian hails from the 'Mecca' of baseball
.. Plymouth of course. He has fantastic enthusiasm for the game and has fitted in well with his new team mates. Damian honed his skills with the Mariners and with the GB youth setup.
Ben Pearson
Position P/IF
Throws R
Bats R
The younger of the two Pearson brothers, Ben has come through the very successful Cartmel Valley youth baseball system. He is one our two young starting pitchers, who can also play anywhere on the diamond. He is the team's leadoff hitter, batting.
.432 while stealing 33 on the season. Ben however caused a stir at Croydon, striking out 17 Kent Mariners (slightly autocratic). In all games played Ben's ERA is 2.97.
James Pearson
Position C/IF/OF
Throws R
Bats R
Most guys on our team would agree that this guy is vital for our success. He is extremely well schooled; he knows the game backwards and gets the job done. Although by his own admission he would say he struggled at the plate in 09, he always finds a way to contribute. James is the ultimate team player who plays outstanding defence. He is the A's 'Mr Intangible'.
Dave Mcneilage
Position C/P/IF/OF
Throws R
Bats R
This guy was fantastic for the A's in 2009. At short noticed he put on the 'tools of ignorance' and did a great job behind the plate. His leadership and baseball knowledge was evident in each game. Dave threw out 8 runners over the course of the season and showed he can hit too, popping a couple over the fence in 09. More importantly Dave looked like he was having fun, which was good for him & the team.
Sean Mcneilage
Position P/IF/OF
Throws R
Bats R
Sean Mac came of age in 2009 as a front line pitcher, a 4.03 ERA & 63 strikeouts in 50 innings wasn't a bad return in 09. Sean made a gutsy start at Croydon, pitching with a hastily rehabbed ankle, fired 3 scoreless innings against a tough Mildenhall team, before tiring in the 4th. Look for Sean to take his pitching to the next level in 2010.
James Eaton
Position C/IF/OF
Throws R
Bats R
James made a welcome mid season return to the team, playing the last 8 league games, helping out with catching duties & providing the lineup with some much needed pop in the middle. He didn't disappoint James hammered 3 home runs in 8 league games, whilst slugging a spectacular .920. We're hoping James will be available a little more in 2010 as he is quite a difference maker.
