Manchester A's 2005 Player Profiles

Management Team

Chris Jackson : Manager
Jim Gunn : Assistant Manger

Players

Chris Jackson

Position – CF/P
Throws – R
Bats – R

Chris has played for the A’s since 1999.  He is a steady outfielder, with a solid bat. Chris had a decent season last year with an OBP of .548 & 23 runs scored. He has also been known to dabble with knuckleball on occasion & will break it out in emergency.  Chris won the A’s MVP in 2002.

Dave Gould

Position – SS
Throws – R
Bats – R

Dave is one of the longest serving members of the club joining in 1998.  After several seasons playing for the Eagles, Dave decided to play for the A’s from 2004.  He is a very reliable shortstop & one of the best leadoff hitters in MBC’s history.  Dave has had over 150 hits & 150 stolen bases in his illustrious MBC career.

Paul Fagan

Position – P/SS/3B
Throws – R
Bats – R

Paul joined the club in 2002 & was initially known as ‘softball dude’.  He quickly established himself as one of the mainstays of the team, pitching until his arm fell off & striking fear into the hearts of opposing pitchers.  He was the A’s MVP in 2003 & seems to be in contention every year. In 2004 with a .418 batting average Paul led the team with 23 RBI’s & 3 triples.  Not bad for an old guy!

Jim Gunn

Position – 1B/C
Throws – R
Bats – R

Jim has been in organisation from 1998 & played a few seasons with the Eagles.  Since 2000, however he has mainly played for the A’s winning the MVP in 2000 & ‘Iron Man’ in 2003. Jim is the ultimate line drive hitter with a very simple philosophy ‘see ball hit ball’. ‘Wheels’ as he is known has fantastic base stealing instincts, so don’t nod off when he’s on the basepaths.

Ian Marchment

Position – C
Throws – R
Bats – R

Ian has been playing this game forever & apparently caught Cy Young when he was in the minors.  The ‘King of Bloops’ won the  A’s MVP in 2001.  Last year he led the team with 28 hits & had a batting average bang on .400.  I can also confirm he is still the loudest man in British Baseball.  Despite having knees of a 120 year old, ‘Crash’ still supplies an ever-present reliability behind the plate.

Ian Marginson

Position – 2B
Throws – R
Bats – R

Margy has been with us since 2000.  Initially he bounced around varying positions as the A’s utility guy until 2004 when he secured a regular spot at 2B. This must have suited him as his batting average jumped up .200 points to a staggering .464 that year. This was enough to secure him the 2004 batting title. Over that season due to hard work Margy  improved into a steady 2B & continues to improve his all round game.  Also, don’t be fooled by his speed, he’s slower than what you think!

Martyn Gough

Position – P/3B
Throws – R
Bats – R

Martyn joined the set-up in 2003 as a young talented sportsman excelling in most things he encounters.  Baseball has proved to be no exception & Martyn has matured into a feared hitter who is lightening fast (if not a little clumsy) on the basepaths clocking up 26 stolen bases in 2004 & a .417 batting average. He has an excellent arm & is starting to get a taste for pitching, opposing hitters beware!

Tony Wolstenholme

Position – 3B/OF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Tony joined MBC from the Shropshire Pumas in a trade with a fungo bat & one box of used baseballs in 2004.  After limited playing time in 2004, Tony is looking to have big season in 2005.  He has a great arm & will be invaluable to the A’s success this season.  Tony is a vital cog in the A’s machine specialising in ‘positive mental attitude’.

Dave Gaskell

Position – P/IF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Dave has emerged from the very successful junior ranks with fantastic fundamentals. Don’t be fooled by his diminutive frame or he might just hit one by you, this guy can play. Just in case you were wondering, he can pitch too.  He throws hard with pinpoint control & will be one of our key relievers in the 2005 season.  Watch out for this guy, he’s only going to get better!

Richard Morley

Position – OF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Richard joined with the crop of 2004, a bit of a ‘Sport Billy’ he has soon adapted to this game & is looking to secure a regular spot on this team.  Morley has good range in the outfield & a lively bat at the plate. Expect to see more from this guy!

Rónán Dunne

Position – 2B/OF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Rónán has been an active member of the club since 2000, umpiring, coaching the kids & playing.  After a long stint on the DL Rónán is back on the diamond.  He possesses great range at 2B & an uncanny ability to get on base & then steal them (lots of them)!  Rónán has shown excellent adaptability in learning a new position in the outfield and gives the A’s potent speed at the top or bottom of the order.

Rob Dipper

Position – OF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Rob joined MBC in 2004 having never played the game before.  Since then his batting improves every time he’s at the plate & his glove work is solid.  Rob is a tireless worker & the ultimate team guy. Watch out for this guy to make big strides this year.

Stuart Winter

Position – OF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Stuart is another graduate from the class of 2004 & is looking to solidify his place in the A’s squad.  He has a decent arm & good athletic ability, his awareness & instincts for the game are growing by the week.  Stuart is also a player who will be pushing for more game time during the season due to his gradual improvement of his overall game.

Gareth Aubrey

Position – OF
Throws – R
Bats – R

Gareth has been with the A’s since 2003 & although hasn’t played much due to a hectic educational commitment (student), he always puts the time in at training.  Gareth has improved his all round game dramatically & will look to secure some more at bats to take him to the next level.
