Manchester Baseball History

1847

First played in GB by touring teams

1890

Baseball Association of GB formed

1934

Baseball started in North West. Sir John Moore of Littlewoods starts the NBA National Baseball Association.

1936

Professional leagues formed, Derby, Manchester, Stoke, Preston & Aston Villa

1937

First Baseball camp at Aston Villa, Pro league games attracting crowds of 30k

1938

England beat USA in the first World Amateur Championships. School leagues formed.

1939

Local companies Kellogs, Ferranti, GUS field teams. North West strong teams from Rugby & Football, Dixie Dean of Everton. Feature professional players & popular in HM forces.

1946

GB Amateur League formed, BBF established.

1947

STRETFORD Saints Baseball Club formed including American service men

1952

team based at Turn Moss in July

1953

Exhibition games at Longford Park , LCCC and Ashton Park on Coronation Day

1962

over 30 members at Stretford the strongest in the North of England

1963

As a Member of the British Baseball Federation entered in the European Championship in Holland.

1964

National League Champions beating Nottingham 37-0 at Knutsford

1965

Stretford Saints continue to play at Turn Moss in North West Amateur League

1966

Stetford Saints National Champions

1990

Youth Teams started TRAFFORD SAINTS, at Turn Moss Stretford.

1994

North West League Champions and in 95,96,97,98 at Pony level. U16's

1995

Started T-ball programs at Rookie level, Trafford win North West Pony Trophy and in 96, 97, 98.

1996

Started Bronco teams 10-13 yr old

1997

Rookie team win North West Trophy. Over 50 youth members registered with the BBF. Adopted by St Paul Saints of Minnesota in USA. BBC feature Trafford Baseball on National TV.

1998

Pony & Bronco teams win north West League and play National Finals in Sale. Major League Baseball & BBF join with Channel 5 to put youth baseball on TV. Over 84,000 children playing in GB. Seniors become Manchester Express gaining sponsorship from Baseball Express equipment suppliers. Pony team national Champions & Bronco finalists.

1999

Seniors expand to two teams, forming a new first team the Manchester Express, they finish runners up in the Northern Conference Divcision One and gain promotion to Northern Premiership division in their first season. Manchester A's maintain their position in the in Northern Conference Division One. Bronco team win Halton Tournament.

2000

Trafford Saints merge with Seniors to form The Manchester Baseball Club. Junior section awarded major sponsorship package from The Trafford Centre. Pony & Rookie teams win North West Trophy Finals in Preston the largest UK Baseball championship in history. Manchester players feature prominently in GB squads at all levels. GMR feature 1 hour long program on live radio about MBC. Express make the National play-offs losing to the British champions Brighton.

2002

Express make the National Premier play-offs losing to the National Premier champions Menwith Hill.

2003

Two MBC junior teams make the Final 4, MBC is the only club in the country to achieve this. The seniors host the very successful inaugural Northern tournament, a combined MBC team win the B-Pool event, while Menwith Hill win the A-Pool event. A's improve to win more matches this season than in their last 4 years combined.

2004

MBC form a new senior rookie 3rd team - the Torrent, the first team become the Eagles (formerly the Express) and play in the new North National League, an all wood bat league.
